Flamingo Yoga & Wellness was formed by Hema Laxman with the aim of helping individuals achieve their full potential through yoga and lifestyle changes. In 2019, an online eco-store was added to encourage people to use natural products for yoga practice and at the same time, enhance their practice through use of props.

About Hema

As a recruiter, yoga instructor and owner of Flamingo Yoga brand, Hema is passionate about both Yoga and the environment. She was drawn to yoga for the serenity and peace it brought her amidst the uncertainties and challenges in life.

With an educational background in the Biological Sciences, Hema has a naturally inquisitive and scientific mind which helps her to reap the anatomical benefits of yoga, both in teaching and personal practice. In her spare time, she engages in self study, reading and analyzing texts on yogic philosophy.

You can see her at Al Barsha Pond park leading free community yoga sessions on weekends with her husband as a way to give back to the society. Amidst the lockdown, the free classes are now being held as Facebook Live sessions. As a YACEP, Hema holds alignment and anatomical workshops catering to other yoga teachers and practitioners to help them go deeper into the practice.

The Online eco-store that Hema runs has eco friendly yoga accessories and supports the weaving community in India. "Yoga is a practice that brings you close to nature, so practice yoga safely and responsibly" remains Hema's mantra.

What to expect in her class

Her classes are aimed at deepening your practice, encouraging you to look beyond the physical asana. As the groups are smaller, with upto10 students in each session, you get individual attention and corrections based on your body type and needs.

Every lesson incorporates the right balance between strength and flexibility, including a strong focus on alignment and breath. You can expect Hema to stress the importance of using props to prevent injuries and engage the right muscle groups. Pranayama and meditation are an integral part of her routine.  Her asana classes are energising, motivating, and at the same time, meditative; encouraging inner awareness through focus and mindful breathing. She has the ability to motivate people and guide them through yoga to “connect with the inner warrior”.

About Ajit

Ajit began practicing yoga in 2014. What started as a way to keep fit turned into passion for both the physical aspect as well as spirituality, leading him to complete his certification with Yoga Vidya Mandiram, Rishikesh, India.

Outside of Yoga, Ajit has a background in finance and works for an American based corporate in the oil and gas industry as a Finance Director.

Ajit takes time out from his busy corporate schedule to support his wife in spreading awareness about yoga and healthy living. The proceeds from the Value for Value sessions that he leads are set aside completely for the welfare of weavers in India. He is also a strong believer in going eco-friendly and volunteers whenever he can for the natural yoga products of Flamingo.

What to expect in his class

Ajit is the Lead Yoga instructor for the Saturday Free Yoga sessions, Free Facebook Live sessions and the unique Value for Value sessions at Dubai Science Park (DSP), Al Barsha South.

Ajit is very focused on safe practice while teaching, ensuring that the students understand alignment and the importance of breath. A solid foundation in surya namaskar forms the basis of his class, before progressing to individual asanas. Starting with learning the foundation in Tadasana, to completely relaxing in Shavasana, his classes are engaging and fun. He will also guide the class on good pranayama practice followed by meditation.
